OQ, a leading integrated energy company headquartered in Oman, embarked on a digital transformation journey to modernize its IT landscape and support its rapidly evolving business operations. With a diverse portfolio spanning oil, gas, petrochemicals, and renewables, OQ was operating on a fragmented legacy database environment that presented growing challenges in performance, manageability, and cost-efficiency. The company required a scalable, secure, and highly available solution to consolidate critical workloads, streamline operations, and reduce the complexity of managing multiple disparate systems. After evaluating several options, OQ chose Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) as the foundation for its next-generation data infrastructure, drawn by its simplicity, performance, and built-in automation.

The implementation of ODA at OQ marked a turning point in the company’s infrastructure modernization strategy. By consolidating multiple legacy databases into Oracle’s engineered system, OQ was able to dramatically simplify its IT operations. The plug-and-play nature of ODA allowed for rapid deployment—shrinking project timelines from weeks to just a few hours—while integrated features like Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and automated backup and patching improved system resilience and uptime. With Oracle Enterprise Manager, the IT team gained a centralized view for monitoring and managing database health, performance, and security. As a result, application performance improved by nearly three times, enabling business units to access data faster and make quicker, more informed decisions.

Since the deployment, OQ has realized a 40% reduction in total cost of ownership, attributed to both infrastructure consolidation and simplified Oracle licensing. Beyond cost savings, the real value for OQ has been the reliability and agility gained—laying a robust foundation for future growth. The Oracle team collaborated closely with OQ throughout the project, ensuring that the system was fine-tuned for their unique operational requirements. With ODA now powering several mission-critical systems, OQ is looking ahead to expand its Oracle footprint, exploring analytics and AI capabilities to further drive innovation.
